Japan / Establishment of Diplomatic Relations with the Republic of South Sudan

 

TOKYO, Japan, July 13, 2011/African Press Organization (APO)/ — On Saturday, July 9, Parliamentary Vice-minister for Foreign Affairs Makiko Kikuta attended the independence ceremony for the Republic of South Sudan in its capital city of Juba. That afternoon, she exchanged letters with Mr. Deng Alor, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of South Sudan, with a view to establishing diplomatic relations with the country.

With the exchange of letters, as of July 9, Japan has officially established diplomatic relations with the Republic of South Sudan (Signatories to the exchanged letters were Minister for Foreign Affairs Takeaki Matsumoto on the Japanese side and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Deng Alor on the South Sudan side).
