The Chairperson of the Commission of the African Union expresses indignation at the attack on UNAMID personnel in Darfur

 

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia, October 13, 2011/African Press Organization (APO)/ — The Chairperson of the Commission of the African Union (AU), Dr. Jean Ping, expresses his deep indignation at the criminal attack on a UNAMID night patrol team in the Zam Zam IDP camp, in Sector North, on 10 October 2011, which caused the death of several peacekeepers, while many others were injured.

 

The Chairperson of the Commission strongly condemns this despicable attack, which occurred at a time when sustained efforts are being made towards the implementation of the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur and the improvement of the security conditions on the ground.

 

The Chairperson of the Commission reiterates AU’s full support to the personnel and leadership of UNAMID and expresses his appreciation for their courage and commitmenmt.

 

The Chairperson of the Commission expresses his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, and calls on the Governement of Sudan to investigate this tragic incident and bring the culprits to book.
