EL FASHER (DARFUR), Sudan, July 26, 2010/African Press Organization (APO)/ — UNAMID Daily Media Brief / 2010-07-26

Security situation update
The situation in Kalma Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp is calm but remains tense following events on 24 July when gunmen identifying themselves as members of the Sudan Liberation Army-Abdul Wahid faction (SLA-AW) began shooting indiscriminately, protesting the involvement of several IDP leaders in the Doha talks. Although no fatalities were reported, one person was injured. UNAMID has increased its presence in the camp and is working in collaboration with local authorities and community leaders to defuse tensions.

No further incidents have been reported in the past 24 hours.

UNAMID patrols
UNAMID military forces conducted 84 patrols including routine, short-range, long-range, night and humanitarian escort patrols covering 59 villages and IDP camps.

UNAMID police advisors conducted 133 patrols in villages and IDP camps.
