Donation by UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and Ethiopian International
Athlete Tirunesh Dibaba
to Support Water supply improvement in Oromia at
Media Training for School WASH Competition
For International Year of Sanitation
Who – United Nations (UN) and the Government of Ethiopia (Federal
Ministries of Education and Health, Addis Ababa Bureaus of
Health and Education and Regional Governments of Oromia,
Tigrai and Amhara)
What – In relation to the International Year of Sanitation, African
Union Year of the African Youth and the event of media
training for schools, UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, Tirunesh
Dibaba will give a donation of 50,000 birr to UNICEF in the
presence of Mr. Bjorn Ljungqvist, Representative of UNICEF.
She is also committing another 45,000 birr for water supply
facility in Arsi Bekoji area to be undertaken by UNICEF in
collaboration with the Oromia Water Resource Bureau. The
Bureau Head Ato Motuma Makassa will also be on hand to
receive the donation.
When: 7 March 2008, at 3:30 PM
Where: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia at the Red Cross Training Centre in
Saris.
Why: This event will highlight the important contributions and
support that Goodwill Ambassador, Ms. Tirunesh is making to
children through support to water, sanitation, and hygiene
(WASH) activities as part of the International Year of
Sanitation. It will also provide an opportunity to highlight
the coming national school WASH competition which is
developed to engage school children through media as part of
a combined recognition of the AU Year of African Youth and
International Year of Sanitation activities.
