UK Chief Scientific Advisor visits South Africa

 

LONDON, United-Kingdom, July 13, 2015/African Press Organization (APO)/ The UK’s Chief Scientific Advisor, Sir Mark Walport will visit South Africa on 16-17 July to deepen collaboration around science and innovation – one of the central pillars of the UK-South Africa Bilateral relationship.

 

Sir Mark’s visit will focus on promotion of the UK-SA Newton Fund, collaboration in the health sector and the signing of a UK-SA Space Agency Memorandum of Understanding.

 

During the visit, Sir Mark will also launch the official GREAT Britain Sponsorship of the Bloodhound Supersonic Car, along with Bloodhound Operations Manager, Martyn Davidson. The launch will take place at Jaguar Landrover’s Centurion showroom and will include a full scale model of the Bloodhound SSC.

 

In the run-up to the visit, High Commissioner Judith Macgregor said:

 

“We believe science and research are inextricably linked to economic development and growth. Sir Mark’s visit underlines the keen and growing interest in both our countries in first class research collaboration and the wider development of skills.”
