On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I congratulate the people of the Democratic Republic of Sao Tome and Principe on the 40th anniversary of your independence on July 12.
Sao Tome and Principe and the United States share a commitment to democracy and the rule of law. Our nations continue to work together to address environmental issues, promote energy development, and ensure stability in the Gulf of Guinea and beyond.
On this day of celebration, I look forward to strengthening our partnership in the year to come.
