WCC expresses shock at killings in Kuwait, Tunisia and France

GENEVA, Switzerland, June 29, 2015/African Press Organization (APO)/ Expressing shock at the killings in Kuwait, Tunisia and France that took place on 26 June, the World Council of Churches (WCC) acting general secretary Georges Lemopoulos said, “I grieve with those who have lost loved ones, and those who have been injured as a result of these appalling acts, which have marred the month of Ramadan, sacred to Muslims everywhere.”

In an official statement issued from the WCC headquarters in Geneva on 29 June, Lemopoulos said that the “intention of those who undertook these atrocities was to promote wider turmoil – fomenting strife between people of different religions and religious traditions, and resulting in the destruction of many lives, livelihoods and communities.”

Lemopoulos encouraged all people of good will to stand together in solidarity to name and reject the evil and the perversion of religion as a tool for violence, than an agent of peace.
