Ibn Chambas welcomes the invitation by President Alpha Condé to the leader of the Guinean opposition, M. Cellou Dalein Diallo to discuss the current crisis.

 

DAKAR, Sénégal, May 11, 2015/African Press Organization (APO)/ — The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for West Africa, M. Mohamed Ibn Chambas welcomes the invitation extended by the President the Republic of Guinea, M. Alpha Condé to the leader of the Guinean opposition, M. Cellou Dalein Diallo to a meeting in an effort to ease political tensions in the country.

SRSG Ibn Chambas is also encouraged that M. Cellou Dalein Diallo has accepted the invitation and looks forward to a fruitful meeting.

“Dialogue is the only way to resolve peacefully the current crisis which will help create the necessary conditions for the last mile fight against the Ebola virus disease and establish political atmosphere conducive to the holding of violence-free, inclusive and credible elections in the country,” said M. Ibn Chambas.

M. Ibn Chambas will travel to Conakry on 14 May as part of United Nations continued efforts to accompany the Guinean stakeholders in their political dialogue.
