UGANDA ESSENTIAL PARTNER FOR ITALY IN SUB-SAHARAN AFRICA, SAYS TERZI

 

ROME, Italy, February 5, 2013/African Press Organization (APO)/ — Minister Terzi met today at the foreign ministry in Rome with his Ugandan colleague Sam Kutesa in the margins of the meeting “New approaches to the Security Council reform”. Central to their discussions was satisfaction for the excellent trend in bilateral relations, not least in the wake of the recent visits by government delegations to Kampala for October’s 50th anniversary of Uganda’s independence, and a Ugandan delegation led by Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi to Rome in December.

Minister Terzi defined Uganda as “an essential partner for Italy in Sub-Saharan Africa”, and underscored Italian businesses’ lively interest in the economic opportunities offered by that African nation, particularly in the energy field. The two ministers agreed, in that regard, on the advisability of accelerating negotiations for the signing of a memorandum on collaboration between SMEs, in the conviction that such an instrument could promote further growth in economic relations.

Terzi and Kutesa also exchanged views on the world’s regional crises.
