The Fifth Ordinary Session of the African Union Commission on International Law (AUCIL) starts today

 

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia, November 27, 2012/African Press Organization (APO)/ Today the 5th Ordinary Session of the African Union Commission on International Law (AUCIL) started at the Headquarters of the African Union and will continue up to 5 December 2012.

 

During the session, the AUCIL will consider amongst others, study reports prepared by its Special Rapporteurs on the following subjects:

a.    Definition of the crime of Unconstitutional Change of Government;

b.    Harmonization of Ratification Producers in AU Member States;

c.    Research and appropriate Studies on the Juridical Basis for Reparation for Slavery;

d.    Model Law on the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) (Kampala) Convention;

e.    Teaching, Study and Dissemination of International Law and African Union Law ;

f.    Working Methods, Competences, Future Programmes of Work and Strengthening the Capacity of AUCIL

g.    Piracy in Africa;

h.    Research, Information and Publication;

i.    International environmental law in Africa ;

 

The launch of the first edition of the AUCIL Yearbook will take place during the Session.

 

Worth noting that the first edition of the African Union Forum of Experts of International Law and African Union Law is scheduled to take place after the Fifth Ordinary Session from 6 to 7 December 2012.

 

The meeting of the AUCIL is being chaired by Prof. Adelardus Kilangi and Prof. Makenga B. Mpasi as General Rapporteur
