Minister Giulio Terzi discusses developments in Gaza by telephone with Egyptian colleague Kamel Amr

 

ROME, Italy, November 22, 2012/African Press Organization (APO)/ From Paris, where he is accompanying President of the Republic Napolitano on a State visit, Minister for Foreign Affairs Giulio Terzi discusses developments in Gaza by telephone with Egyptian foreign minister Kamel Amr.

Minister Terzi informed his Egyptian colleague of his “deep regret for the death and destruction caused by the recent hostilities and major concern for their possible impact on the stability of the entire region”, and expressed his “satisfaction with the ceasefire in Gaza, which puts an end to the intolerable suffering of the civilian population”, while underscoring “Israel’s right to its own security”.

Terzi reiterated his hope that this cessation of hostilities would be “the first step toward revival of the dialogue between Israelis and Palestinians, a goal for which Italy will continue to strive actively together with its main partners and regional actors”.

Extending deep appreciation for the decisive role that Egypt has played in achieving the truce,Terzi pointed out to his Egyptian colleague that international efforts to reach a lasting solution would be the central focus of his meeting on Friday at the foreign ministry in Rome with Palestinian foreign minister Riyad Malki.
