Italy-Libya: Terzi in Tripoli – Support for strengthening of Libyan institutions and society

ROME, Italy, November 6, 2012/African Press Organization (APO)/ Minister Giulio Terzi is in Tripoli to confirm the Italian government’s support for the strengthening of Libyan institutions and society within the framework of intense bilateral relations developed in compliance with the Tripoli Declaration signed on 21 January of this year during a visit by Prime Minister Mario Monti, who conveyed his congratulations for the constitution of the new government in a letter to Prime Minister Zidane.

Encouraging signs

The constitution of the new Libyan government is a fundamental step towards a stable and democratic Libya. The inclusive method that led to the formation of the government by Prime Minister Ali Zidane, and in particular the convergence among the various political forces, are encouraging signs considering the task facing new government.

Libya a key partner

It is Italy’s hope that the new government legitimised by the popular vote of 7 July will be able to give additional impetus to economic, institutional and security reforms, in keeping with the expectations of the Libyan people, to which Italy feels particularly akin.

Italy considers Libya a key bilateral and regional partner in efforts toward strengthening democratic stability, security and socio-economic development in the Mediterranean as well as increasing Euro-Mediterranean dialogue.
