Cuba’s Ambassador to the African Union Bids Farewell to the Chairperson


ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia, October 3, 2012/African Press Organization (APO)/ The Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), Dr. Jean Ping, received in his office at the AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa, on Tuesday, 02 October 2012, the Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and Permanent Observer to the African Union, H.E. Mrs. Clara Margarita Pulido Escandell, who came to bid farewell to the Chairperson, having come to the end of her tenure.


Welcoming the Cuban Diplomat, the Chairperson commended Ambassador Escandell for her role and contribution in strengthening relations between Africa and Cuba, both at the bilateral and multilateral levels, and wished her success in her future endeavors.


Dr. Ping recalled with appreciation Cuba’s solid support for Africa’s Liberation Struggle and entreated Ambassador Escandell to convey his warm regards and the enduring gratitude of the African People to President Raul Castro and the Government and People of Cuba.


On her part, Ambassador Escandell expressed appreciation for the strong and valuable support she received from Chairperson Ping and the Commission during her tenure in Addis Ababa.


She also underscored Cuba’s historically close relations with Africa dating back to the Cuban Revolution of 1959; “an era which coincided with the independence of most African countries”, the Ambassador pointed out.


Ambassador Escandell wished Dr. Ping success in his future endeavours, as he prepares to hand over the leadership of the African Union Commission to the incoming Chairperson, Dr. Dlamini-Zuma, on 15 October 2012.
