The Permanent Observer of Iran to the African Union Bids Farewell to the Chairperson


ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia, June 19, 2012/African Press Organization (APO)/ — The Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), Dr. Jean Ping, received in his office at the AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa, on Friday, 15 June 2012, the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and Permanent Observer to the African Union, H.E. Mr. Mohammad Javad Zamanian Kopaee, who came to bid farewell to the Chairperson, having come to the end of his tenure.


Welcoming his guest, the Chairperson thanked the Ambassador for his distinguished service as Iran’s Permanent Observer to the African Union and underscored the convergence of views between the African Union and the Islamic Republic of Iran on many international issues.


The Chairperson commended Iran for its contribution to human history and world civilization.


On his part, the Iranian Ambassador commended the Chairperson for his leadership, adding: “The Islamic Republic of Iran respects you very much.” He thanked Dr. Ping for always making time, despite his busy schedule, to receive Iran’s Minister of Foreign Affairs whenever the latter visited Addis Ababa.


Ambassador Zamanian Kopaee further stated that Iran appreciates and supports the work of the African Union and believes that the AU has an important role to play within Africa and globally, adding that despite some recent endeavours to weaken the African Union, the organization is capable of overcoming these challenges.


“The world has shifted from a bipolar international system to a multipolar system and we believe that the future belongs to developing countries. We believe that all countries of the world can and should live together in peace,” the Iranian Ambassador affirmed.


Both personalities exchanged views on several contemporary issues in Africa and around the world and jointly expressed the view that dialogue is the best means to resolve differences between people and nations.
