The Chairperson of the African Union Commission Receives Credentials of the Permanent Representative of Portugal

 

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia, October 5, 2011/African Press Organization (APO)/ — The Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), Dr. Jean Ping, received in his office at the AUC Headquarters in Addis Ababa, on Wednesday 04 May 2011, the credentials of the new Permanent Representative of Portugal to the African Union, Ambassador Antonio Luiz Cotrim.

 

Welcoming the new Permanent Representative, Chairperson Ping underlined the historical links between the continent and Portugal and pointed out that the two parties can further strengthen their bilateral cooperation, notably through the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP), which comprises four African countries out of the seven members of this organization, namely Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea Bissau, Mozambique and Sao Tome and Principe, in addition to Portugal, Brazil and East Timor.

 

The Chairperson assured the Portuguese Ambassador of his full cooperation and support as well as that of the AU Commission in the discharge of his new responsibilities.

 

On his part, Ambassador Luiz Cotrim expressed the willingness of the new Government in Portugal to work together with AU and its Member States to achieve their common goals of peace, security and development in Africa.

 

The ceremony was attended, among others, by the Chief of Staff in the Bureau of Chairperson, the Deputy Chief of Staff as well as the Diplomatic Advisor of the Chairperson.
