President Hu Jintao’s Special Envoy Attends the Independence Celebration of the Republic of South Sudan

 

BEIJING, China, July 12, 2011/African Press Organization (APO)/ — On July 9, 2011, Jiang Weixin, President Hu Jintao’s special envoy and Minister of Housing and Urban-Rural Construction, led a delegation to attend the independence celebration of the Republic of South Sudan at the invitation of President Salva Kiir.

 

During the celebration, Jiang Weixin conveyed to President Salva Kiir President Hu Jintao’s message expressing warm congratulations on the independence of South Sudan and good wishes for new achievements by South Sudan in national construction and development. Jiang said China, on the basis of the five principles of peaceful coexistence, is willing to establish and develop long-term, healthy, stable, friendly and cooperative relation with the Republic of South Sudan. President Kiir thanked President Hu for sending a congratulatory message and sending a special envoy to attend the independence celebration of South Sudan. He also asked Jiang Weixin to convey his good wishes to President Hu Jintao. Kiir said South Sudan attaches great importance to developing relations with China, wishes to thank China for its help and support, and will work with China to push bilateral relations forward.

 

 

 

At the celebration ceremony, Jiang Weixin delivered a speech on behalf of the Asian countries. He said South Sudan has a vast territory, brilliant civilizations, industrious and brave people. China sincerely hopes that under the leadership of President Kiir and the Sudanese People’s Liberation Movement, the young Republic of South Sudan could achieve remarkable achievements on the road of national construction and development. Currently, South Sudan and Sudan are still negotiating on some outstanding issues. These issues have both complicated historical background and many practical reasons. China believes that both sides will set the peace above everything else and continue to address related issues on the basis of mutual understanding and through negotiation and consultation. China sincerely hopes that South Sudan and Sudan can be good neighbors, good partners and good brothers forever.

 

 

 

On the same day, Jiang Weixin, representing the Chinese government, signed a diplomatic communiqué with Foreign Minister Deng Alor Kuol of South Sudan. He, together with South Sudan’s Parliamentary Speaker James Wani Igga, unveiled the board of China’s Embassy in the Republic of South Sudan.

 

 

 

Li Zhiguo, Charge d’Affaires of China’s Embassy in South Sudan also attended the above activities.
