Sweden to help injury victims from Egypt

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, July 1, 2011/African Press Organization (APO)/ — The Government has today decided to cover the costs of care in Sweden for people injured during the demonstrations for democracy and human rights in Egypt in January and February 2011.

A great many people were killed and injured during the revolution. Egypt’s transitional government has requested international support to help injured demonstrators receive medical care abroad.

“Sweden’s willingness to help, along with other countries, to provide care for people injured in the fight for democracy and human rights is greatly appreciated. The Government’s decision is a concrete example of Sweden’s commitment to the new democratic Egypt that is emerging,” says Minister for International Development Cooperation Gunilla Carlsson.

The cost of this initiative is not to exceed SEK 5 million and will be charged to the funds available to Sida for humanitarian operations and conflict management.
