Movement restriction on aid workers lifted in South Darfur

South Darfur authorities have officially lifted restriction on the movement of aid workers in the state. UNAMID is currently providing escorts for several humanitarian convoys from Nyala to Kass, El Dain and Khor Abeche.

Restrictions on operations of all humanitarian actors in the state beyond a 15-kilometer radius of Nyala have been in place since 17 March by authorities citing ongoing military operations and security threats. Several metric tons of aid are to be delivered in the coming days.

UNAMID shelters Khor Abeche families left homeless by fire

UNAMID is currently providing emergency shelters to more than thirty people in Khor Abeche internally displaced persons (IDP) camp after a fire broke out on 11 June, leading to the death of a five-year-old child.

Peacekeepers yesterday repaired one of the tents, which sustained damage during a severe duststorm. Rain and sandstorms have since worsened the plight of the victims.

UNAMID patrols

UNAMID military conducted 146 patrols including routine, short-range, long-range, night and humanitarian escort patrols covering 78 villages and internally displaced persons (IDP) camps.

UNAMID Police advisors conducted 139 patrols in villages and IDP camps.
