Italian Foreign Ministry strongly condemns attacks on foreign embassies in Tripoli

ROME, Italy, May 2, 2011/African Press Organization (APO)/ — The foreign ministry confirmed attacks on the buildings of several foreign ministries in Tripoli, including the Italian Embassy. Its firm condemnation of these serious acts cites how, in failing to ensure due protection to foreign diplomatic missions in Tripoli, the Gaddafi regime has once again fallen short of its most basic international obligations.

This stance was expressed to the Tripoli authorities through the Turkish Embassy, which is temporarily seeing to Italian interests in the Libyan capital. These attacks against our Embassy building will not weaken Italy’s determination, along with other partners, to pursue the defence of the Libyan civilian population, in fulfillment of United Nations resolution 1973.
