French and Dutch delegations visit UNAMID
Two high-level delegations from the Permanent Mission to the UN of the Republic of France and the Dutch Government’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs are today in North Darfur to meet with UNAMID leaders, gain first-hand knowledge of the Mission’s activities and identify areas of assistance.

Representing the French Foreign Ministry and the country’s Permanent Mission to the UN, Mr. Frederic Jung and his team were received by UNAMID Deputy Joint Special Representative Mohamed Yonis and Mission senior officials. They were briefed on UNAMID’s mandate and achievements and discussed the many challenges to its work.

Ms. Caecilia Wijgers, head of the UN department of the Netherlands’ Ministry of Foreign Affairs led a five-person delegation to Mellit, 60km north of El Fasher, where they met with UNAMID peacekeepers and local officials.

Finance seminar for civil society in Zalingei
Twenty-five leading members of Zalingei civil society in West Darfur today attended a UNAMID workshop on financial management. The participants, among them national aid workers, academics, and leaders of native administrations, women and youth groups, discussed planning and budgeting projects for local communities and their governments.

The event was organized by UNAMID Civil Affairs section, which is currently financing numerous ongoing Quick Impact Projects in Darfur.

UNAMID patrols
UNAMID military conducted 121 patrols including routine, short-range, long-range, night and humanitarian escort patrols covering 74 villages and IDP camps.

UNAMID police advisors conducted 103 patrols in villages and IDP camps.
