Security situation in Darfur
No significant incidents have been reported over the past 24 hours.

UNAMID Head assures Agencies, Government of his commitment to West Darfur
In his first visit to El Geneina, West Darfur, UNAMID Joint Special Representative (JSR) Ibrahim Gambari met with UN Agencies and humanitarian teams, Sudanese Officials and Mission staff. The Mission head,   emphasizing the visit as one of many to come, noted the importance of exchanging views and in supporting the Sudan and Chad in implementing agreements that maintain good relations.

During a meeting with UNAMID officials, Professor Gambari underlined the need to adopt more robust patrols and stated his “first priority was security…” He also highlighted the importance of proactive engagement in the peace process, better relations between Chad and the Sudan, early recovery, reconstruction and development.

JSR Gambari also paid a courtesy call to the Deputy Wali of West Darfur, Mr. Baracka Al Amin. Each reaffirmed their commitment and willingness to work closely to achieve the common objective of peace. The Deputy Wali went on to request the Mission’s assistance in providing for basic services and infrastructure.

UNAMID patrols
UNAMID military forces conducted 82 patrols including routine, short-range, long-range, night, and humanitarian escort patrols, covering 64 villages and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps during the reporting period.

UNAMID police advisors conducted 102 patrols in villages and IDP camps.
