What: A seminar on “Peace Operations in Africa: State of Play Challenges and Prospects”.

When:  7 June 2010 at 0900hrs

Where: African Union Commission Headquarters, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Who: The Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (International Organisation of Francophone states, OIF) and the French-speaking Ambassadors in Addis Ababa, in collaboration with the Francophone Research Network on Peace Operations (ROP) from the University of Montreal, Canada are organising the seminar. This seminar will bring together practitioners, academics and diplomats, to discuss key issues, challenges and opportunities related to peace operations in Africa. The workshop will examine the status of peacekeeping on the African continent and will explore ways to address such central issues as the African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA), the role of the African Standby Force, African Union – United Nations relations in the area of peace and security, including MONUC, UNAMID and AMISOM. 

Why: The seminar is OIF’s contribution to the implementation of the Year of Peace

          and Security in Africa (2010), which was declared by the African Heads of

          State and Government in Tripoli, on 31 August 2009.
