AU/ UNAMID Hold Inaugural Seminar for African Business Community

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia, April 9, 2010/African Press Organization (APO)/ — The African Union Commission (AUC) in collaboration with the United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID), will on Tuesday 13 April 2010, hold an inaugural Seminar bringing together African businessmen and women at the headquarters of the African Union in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Holding under the theme:  “Demystifying African Union and United Nations Procurement Procedures and Market”, the one-day Seminar is aimed at informing the African business community on the United Nations and African Union business opportunities in terms of available contracts. It will further educate the participants on the procurement procedures in the awarding of contracts as well as highlight the vendor registration process amongst others.

Meanwhile, the Seminar will be a forum for the AU and UNAMID officials to interact with the African business community in a bid to exchange views so as to adopt a mechanism that will ensure equal business opportunities to all African businessmen and women. Feedback from the participants will enable a more transparent and fair distribution of  AU – UN contracts.

According to the organizers, there is need to convey sufficient awareness to vendors among AU Member States and generate enthusiasm of the business community to compete for business opportunities within the AU and UN Missions.

Worth noting that, the AUC in collaboration with UNAMID have initiated the Business Seminars Programme as a means of identifying new suppliers on a local, national and regional basis by targeting appropriately qualified vendors that can potentially participate actively in UNAMID, AUC, UN and AU Peacekeeping Missions.
