Côte d’Ivoire / UNOCI’s chief meets Forces Nouvelles delegation



ABIDJAN, Côte d’Ivoire, March 30, 2010/African Press Organization (APO)/ — The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Côte d’Ivoire, Y. J. Choi, met a delegation from the Forces Nouvelles (FN) on Saturday 27 March 2010, which came to give him the results of its latest conclave was held from 6 to 14 March in Bouaké.


According to the FN’s spokesperson, Mrs. Affoussy Bamba, the Forces Nouvelles expressed its opposition to the reorganization of the electoral commissions to the Special Representative in view of his role as a guide to the electoral process. “This is an inopportune measure which is not necessary in the current situation”, Mrs. Bamba said.


With regard to the provisional electoral list, the FN reaffirmed that the list produced by the National Institute of Statistics (NIS) and Sagem was reliable. “Both operators which were chosen by the Ivorian State worked on the basis of the criteria established by the Ivorian State, according to clear specifications”, the spokesperson underlined.


Speaking during the meeting, the Special Representative recalled UNOCI’s mandate in maintaining peace and stability, the certification of elections as well as the role entrusted to the Mission which consists in providing support to the Ouagadougou Political Agreement (OPA).


The Forces Nouvelles delegation was led by the Minister of Justice and Human Rights, Mr. Koné Mamadou.
