Chairperson Ping attends inaugural ceremony of President Pohamba of Namibia



ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia, March 23, 2010/African Press Organization (APO)/ — The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mr. Jean Ping, took part yesterday 21 March 2010, in the inaugural ceremony of H.E. Hifikepunye Pohamba, President of the Republic of Namibia that took place in the capital of Namibia, Windhoek.


74-year old President Pohamba was sworn in for a second mandate on Sunday 21 March in the presence of some African Heads of States. The swearing ceremony coincided with Namibia’s anniversary on independence from apartheid – era, South Africa in 1990 following a protracted war between SWAPO and the South African defense force.


The inauguration ceremony is the culmination of the Presidential and National Assembly elections that took place in Namibia on 27 and 28 November 2009, where the SWAPO party and its Presidential candidate emerged victorious.
