Security situation in Darfur

The security situation in Darfur remains relatively calm.

A UNAMID vehicle was car-jacked by four armed men yesterday in El Daein town in South Darfur. No one was injured during the incident. The Sudanese Police authorities have been informed and investigations are ongoing.

UNAMID military forces conducted 117 patrols including routine, short range, long range, night, and Humanitarian escort patrols, covering 100 villages and Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps during the reporting period.

UNAMID police advisors also conducted 112 patrols in villages and IDP camps.

Humanitarian response to new arrivals in West Darfur IDP camp

On 9 March, UNAMID, collaborating with other humanitarian agencies, conducted a mission to Taiba Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp, about 40 km north of Zalingei, West Darfur. More than 600 people, mainly women, children and elderly persons, have fled inter-tribal fighting in Khorramla village, east of Zalingei.

The Mission began distributing water to the new arrivals, who have also started to receive assistance from agencies based in the region. Meanwhile UNAMID Civil Affairs continues its efforts to aid in the reconciliation process.
