African Union Headquarters / Charity bazaar organised by African ambassador’s spouses group

WHEN:                      13 March 2010

 

WHERE:                    African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

 

WHO:                         Organized by the African Ambassadors’ Spouses Group in Addis Ababa (AASG), in collaboration with the Division of Communication and Information (DCI) of the African Union

 

WHY:                         To showcase African cultural diversity at the African union headquarters where all cultures converge. The event will be an opportunity to raise fund and help the needy in and around Ethiopia.

 

OBJECTIVES:  –      The bazaar will display a variety of African cultures and heritages from different regions: such as food, entertainment, games, attire, music and crafts exhibited by different Embassies in different stalls.

 

Furthermore, there will be entertainment activities for children such as:

 horse riding,

 face painting,

 jumping castle,

reading and drawing,

raffle prizes to be won.

 

 

“AFRICAN CORNER: African Corner”:           There will be a special corner known as the “African Corner” where some of the best crafts/souvenirs from various African countries will be showcased in one room, what a journey through African in minutes! The richness in the diverse African Cultures will also be portrayed and shared in the DVD’s and CD’s from different African countries which will be played for promotional entertainment purposes.

 

 

AASG ACTION:   

The Group is committed to raising funds to assist the needy groups in our community, Ethiopia. For example, in the recent years the Group donated to the following organizations in Addis Ababa:

 

Africa HIV Orphans project Embrace Ethiopia (AHOPE) in Old Airport, pictures were taken in 2009 as evidence of the donation; and also kindly refer to the article attached, taken from Sub-Saharan Informer / Friday, April 4, 2008, for the donation of 2008.

 

Centre for Mentally Challenged Children: first time to purchase school uniform and the second year to buy kitchen utensils and pots, plates, pictures were taken in 2009 showing items bought.

 

Association for the rehabilitation of the Girls.

 

Shola Children’s Library: to purchase laundry equipment e.g washing machine: Contact people Mr Arefaye 0911048488 and Mr yohannes 0911401563

 

Godanaw rehabilitation Integrated Project (GRIP), an NGO that provides shelter to the homeless and needy. The Centre trains girls in tailoring, hand craft and catering; in addition, GRIP takes care of the children of these young mothers. The Group bought food stuff, toiletry, and clothing for children; some pictures were taken by the Group as evidence of the donation.
