Press Briefing – Launch of the UNMIL Report on the Human Rights Situation in Liberia

 

 

MONROVIA, Liberia, February 10, 2010/African Press Organization (APO)/ — UNMIL will host its weekly press briefing at the Pan African Plaza Headquarters in Sinkor on Wednesday, 10 February 2010, at 10:00a.m.  

Ø        The Press Briefing will be hosted by the UNMIL Chief of Public Information, Mr. George Somerwill, who will provide some highlights on the Mission’s latest activities.

Ø        The Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for the Rule of Law, Ms. Henrietta Mensa-Bonsu, will launch the bi-annual report on the Human Rights Situation in Liberia. The report is a result of the monitoring conducted by UNMIL Human Rights Officers in the 15 counties in Liberia.  

Ø        The Report highlights some important advances made towards improving protection of human rights, points out the challenges that continue to hamper full realization of human rights by all Liberians and recommends further improvement in addressing human rights concerns.
