Security situation in Darfur
The security situation in Darfur remains relatively calm but unpredictable.

UNAMID military forces conducted 75 patrols including routine, short range, long range, night, and Humanitarian escort patrols, covering 93 villages and Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps during the reporting period.

UNAMID police advisors also conducted 154 patrols in villages and IDP camps.

UNAMID supports rehabilitation centre for juvenile offenders

The Rule of Law Division of the African Union–United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) has once more shown its support to the North Darfur Prison Authority by donating school and sports equipment to the Shallah Juvenile Home, in El Fasher, North Darfur.

In a ceremony held this afternoon at the Home, UNAMID and Save the Children-Sweden made these contributions in an effort to aid the rehabilitation of young offenders, and also to support underprivileged children at the Shallah elementary school. Among the donations to the Juvenile Home were textbooks, notebooks, desks, benches, school uniforms and sports equipment.

This is a continuation of the Mission’s efforts to help improve the rule of law in the region. In December 2009, work began on a new accommodation ward for female prisoners in Shallah Federal Prison, a project funded by UNAMID. The Mission also regularly provides training for state prison employees.
