Security situation in Darfur

The security situation in Darfur remains relatively calm but unpredictable.

UNAMID military forces conducted 94 patrols including routine, short range, long range, night, and Humanitarian escort patrols, covering 79 villages and Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps during the reporting period.

UNAMID police advisors also conducted 141 patrols in villages and IDP camps.


UNAMID three-day training on transitional justice

The UNAMID Human Rights Section concluded yesterday a three-day training on transitional justice for West Darfur civil society.

Over 28 participants from local and national NGOs, media, journalists and the University of Zalingei Peace and Development Centre attended the workshop.

The participants agreed among others to establish a network to advocate for transitional justice measures in Darfur; hold the first follow-up meeting on 15 February 2010 at the University of Zalingei (El Geneina branch) in order to discuss the way forward, particularly how to disseminate messages on transitional justice in Darfur, and the importance of civil society’s involvement in transitional justice processes.
