Morocco’s Prime Minister Meets with Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi

 

 

BEIJING, China, January 14, 2010/African Press Organization (APO)/ — On January 12, 2010, Morocco’s Prime Minister Abbas El Fassi met with visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi in Rabat, the capital of Morocco.

During the meeting, Yang said that China-Morocco friendly relations enjoy a time-honored history. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties 52 years ago, both sides have always shown mutual understanding and support for each other and conducted sincere cooperation. Since entering the new century, the heads of state of the two countries have successfully exchanged visits, injecting new vitality into the traditional friendly relations and guiding the direction for bilateral cooperation in all areas. Both sides have witnessed frequent exchanges of high-level visits, deepening trade cooperation and increasing collaboration as well as people-to-people exchanges in the areas of culture, education, tourism and health. Both sides have also maintained sound coordination and cooperation in international and regional affairs. China is ready to work with Morocco to consolidate political trust, maintain high-level contacts, tap potential of economic and trade cooperation, expand humanities exchanges and strengthen communication and coordination in international and regional affairs, so as to push China-Morocco friendly cooperative relations to a new level.

Yang said that the Chinese government attaches great importance to the implementation of the follow-up actions of the Fourth Ministerial Conference of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and is ready to work more closely with the forum member states including Morocco to do well in relevant work.

Fassi pointed out that China has made important contributions to world civilizations and plays a very important role on the world arena. The two countries and their peoples enjoy profound traditional friendship. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties, bilateral relations have always maintained sound and stable development with frequent high-level visits, fruitful cooperation in political, economic, people-to-people, cultural and other areas and dynamic party-to-party contacts as well as exchanges between various circles. The two countries also share identical and similar views on international and regional issues.

Fassi said Morocco cherishes very much its friendly cooperative relations with China and is ready to further enhance cooperation with China in all areas to push forward bilateral ties. Morocco highly appreciates China’s new measures for cooperation with Africa and is ready to boost cooperation with China within the framework of China-Africa cooperation so as to push for further development of Africa-China ties.

Yang arrived in Rabat on the afternoon of January 11 for his official visit to the country. On the same day, Yang and Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Taieb Fassi Fihri held talks and signed a joint communiqué between the two governments on Morocco’s recognition of China’s market economy status.
