Seychelles / Coast guard continues search operation

 

 

VICTORIA, Mahé, October 27, 2009/African Press Organization (APO)/ — The Seychelles Coast Guard has confirmed that it is continuing search operation for the vessel Lynn Rival that left Mahé island on Thursday 22 Oct at 0920Hrs, despite unconfirmed reports that the vessel was attacked by pirates.

 

“We are monitoring the situation and at the present moment there is no confirmation that the Lynn Rival has been taken by pirates, even if the probability of highjacking is high.  We are pursuing all efforts with other international partners establish to the facts,” said the Commanding Officer of the SCG, Lieutenant Colonel Michael Rosette.

 

The Coast Guard was informed by international partners on Friday 23rd October that the yacht was missing and had no communication with vessel since its departure from Seychelles.

 

An aerial search was immediately initiated on 23rd October, but nothing was sighted.  Other aerials searches continued on the weekend, conducted by the European Union and Seychellois maritime patrol aircraft.

 

The SCG patrol vessel Andromache was first deployed to search the area where the vessel was last reported and all efforts were made to locate the yacht.

 

The Seychelles Coast Guard has continued to search for the yacht with international coalitions, including NATO, EU and US naval forces.
