Darfur / UNAMID Daily Media Brief

EL FASHER (DARFUR), Sudan, October 14, 2009/African Press Organization (APO)/ — UNAMID Daily Media Brief / 2009-10-14

Security situation in Darfur
The security situation in Darfur remains relatively calm, but unpredictable.

UNAMID military forces have conducted 95 patrols, including confidence-building, escort and firewood, among others, in 64 villages and internally displaced persons (IDP) camps. UNAMID police advisors also conducted patrols in villages and IDP camps.

Internally Displaced Persons in West Darfur address differences through dialogue
More than 40 representatives of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in El-Geneina, West Darfur, are participating in a two-day forum to address their tribal and ethnic differences. The consultative event, organized jointly by the Darfur Darfur Dialogue and Consultations (DDDC) and the AU-UN Mission in Darfur (UNAMID), is expected to cover issues, such as security, reconciliation, recovery and development, democracy, land and natural resources and identity, among others.

Together with the DDDC, the Mission has planned a series of similar exercises around Darfur for IDPs, national administrators and civil society representatives to discuss common issues that would assist in making recommendations to move the peace process forward.

The DDDC was established under the terms of the Darfur Peace Agreement to ensure that all Darfurians would have a voice in the peace process through dialogue and consultation.
