UNAMID receives boost to civilian police with additional deployment of Nepalese contingent
One hundred and five Nepalese civilian police officers were deployed from Nepal to El Fasher on a private flight earlier today. This is the first time that a Nepalese contingent has arrived directly from their country to the African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID). The contingent, which includes four female police officers, brings the number of civilian police advisors in the Mission to 2,663 representing almost 70 per cent of the authorized number of 3,772. The Mission also has 1,545 policemen and women in 11 formed police units. This number constitutes only 58 per cent of the total 2,660 required for an authorized 19 formed police units for the Mission. The newly arrived Nepalese contingent will be based in locations in North, South and West Darfur.
