Election of members of African Commission on human and people’s rights and members of the AU Commission of International Law

 

 

TRIPOLI, Libya, July 3, 2009/African Press Organization (APO)/ — African Union ministers of Foreign Affairs, who constitute the Executive Council at their 15th Ordinary Session in Sirte, Great Socialist People’s Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, elected on Tuesday 30 June 2009, members of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR) and members of the African Union Commission on International Law (AUCIL).  The election took place within the framework of the 13th Ordinary Session of the AU Summit, which is holding under the theme: “Investing in Agriculture for Economic Growth and Food Security”.

 

Eleven members of the African Union Commission on International Law (AUCIL) were elected. They are:

 

Mr. Ben Achour  Rafaa                   (Tunisia);

Mr. Ebenezer Appreku                    (Ghana);

Mr. Nkurunziza Donatien               (Burundi);

Mr. Minelik Alemu Getahun           (Ethiopia);

Mr. Filali Kamel                                (Algeria);

Ms. Lilian Bokeeye Mahiri-zaja     (Kenya);

Mr. Adelardus Kilangi                     (Tanzania);

Mr. Kholisani Solo                           (Botswana);

Mr. Blaise Tchikaya                         (Congo);

Mr. Atanazio Kayafa Tembo          (Malawi);

Mr. Cheikh Tidiane Thiam                         (Senegal).

 

The elected members of the African Commission on Human and People’s Rights are:

 

Mr. Mohammed Fayek                    (Egypt);

Ms. Zainabo Kayitesi                       (Rwanda);

Mr. Mohamed Bechir Khalfallah   (Tunisia).

 

Meanwhile, the list of the newly elected members of the AUCIL and the ACHPR will be submitted to the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union, for appointment.
