AU ambassadors end deliberations on summit items in Sirte

 

 

TRIPOLI, Libya, June 29, 2009/African Press Organization (APO)/ — The 18th Ordinary Session of the Permanent Representatives Committee (PRC) which kicked off on 24 June 2009, ended on 27 June 2009, at the Ouagadougou Conference Centre in Sirte, Libya. The closing ceremony was chaired by Mr. Ali Awidan, Libyan Ambassador to the African Union and Chairperson of the PRC, in the presence of Mr. Erastus Mwencha, Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC).

The PRC meeting fell within the framework of the 13th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union, scheduled for 1-3 July 2009, under the theme: “Investing in Agriculture for Economic Growth and Food Security”.

The AU Ambassadors at their 18th Ordinary session, discussed issues of high importance to the development of Africa including the African Union strategic plan 2009-2012, the commitments for accelerating the achievement of water and sanitation goals in Africa and the Progress Report of the Commission on the implementation of the joint Africa-EU  strategy and Action Plan. They also considered the Report of the Commission on the Implementation of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) as well as the Progress Report of the Commission on the Integration of NEPAD into the Structures and Processes of the African Union.

Present at the closing of the PRC were notably, representatives of the African Union organs and regional offices, and the Regional Economic Communities (RECs), amongst others.
