Security Situation in Darfur


The security situation in Darfur remains relatively calm.

UNAMID military conducted 13 confidence-building patrols, 37 escort patrols, and 6 night patrols covering 30 villages/IDP Camps. Similarly, UNAMID Police conducted 93 patrols in and around the IDP Camps and 28 patrols in and around villages and towns.

UNAMID police Advisers in South Darfur, conducted confidence building patrol to Donkey Deresa village, 60 km south of Nyala town and Marla 53 south-east of Nyala on 3 May; they interacted with the Umda (traditional leader) who informed that the security situation in the area was calm and that during the month of April, about 200 families voluntarily returned to their respective villages from Kalma Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) Camp. The Umda also requested the establishment of a Community Policing Centre (CPC) in the village to encourage more IDPs to return to their homes.

Chairman of ICSC meets UNAMID Staff During a Town Hall Meeting
The Chairman of the International Civil Service Commission (ICSC), Mr. Kingston Rhodes and its Executive Secretary, Mr. John Hamilton, met with UNAMID staff today during a town hall meeting held in the presence of the Mission’s senior officials. The ICSC representatives explained that the purpose of their visit to Darfur was to inform themselves on the working and living conditions of UNAMID staff and to listen to any queries and concerns they may have.

During the visit, the ICSC delegation visited Abu Shouk Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) Camp in El Fasher where they met with UNAMID police advisers working in the camp and some of the local leaders.
