Security Situation in Darfur
The security situation in Darfur remains relatively calm;

UNAMID Peacekeepers conducted a joint night patrol with Government of Sudan Police on 20 April to a number of IDP Camps in El Geneina town, Al Riyad and Ardamata in West Darfur respectively. Both teams interacted with GoS Police officers and Sheikhs (traditional leaders) in the areas and were informed that the security situation was calm.

UNAMID and GoS officials praised the exercise and called for continued cooperation between the two sides as such events could provide a much needed forum to deliberate on issues such as Community Policing, projects, activities and initiatives undertaken by UNAMID and GoS.

Additionally, joint patrols would be a way of encouraging transparent dialogue on security issues in the IDP Camps enabling the concerned parties to request further information, clarifications or follow-up.

UNAMID conducted 27 Confidence building patrols, 24 escort patrols and 3 night patrols covering 44 villages/IDP Camps. Similarly, UNAMID Police conducted 98 patrols in and around the IDP Camps and a total of 35 patrols around the towns and villages.
