Security Situation in Darfur
The security situation in Darfur is reported to be relatively calm;

UNAMID conducted 19 confidence building patrols, 33 escort patrols and 5 night patrols covering 33 villages and IDP Camps.

UNAMID Police conducted a total of 92 patrols in and around the IDP camps and 32 patrols in and around the villages.

A Jordanian delegation led by the Deputy Director of Jordan Public Security paid a visit to the North Darfur town of Kabkabiya on 19 April. The visit was aimed at assessing the location for the establishment of a Jordanian Formed Police (FPU) preparing to arrive in the Mission area during the second half of this year.

Egyptian Team arrives in Darfur
The first batch consisting of 75 personnel of the second Egyptian Battalion arrived this morning; another 75 personnel are expected to arrive on 23 April. They will join the 215 Egyptian advance party that arrived last month.

When the team is deployed, they will provide security to the advance party that is currently constructing accommodation for the main body which is scheduled to arrive within four months, bringing the battalion’s expected total to 850 peacekeepers. They will be deployed in Ed El Fursan and Tulus in South Darfur.
