Ethiopia / Government of Japan Donates $6 Million to UNICEF for Children Affected by Food Price Increases

 

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia, April 14, 2009/African Press Organization (APO)/ — Government of Japan Donates $6 Million to UNICEF

 

WHAT: Press Conference announcing US$ 6 million donation by the

Government of Japan for reducing the vulnerability of children

to food price increases

WHY: As part of a total US$300 million earmarked by the Government

of Japan to tackle the impact of food price increases and

climate change on children in Africa, the contribution of $6

million through UNICEF Ethiopia will benefit 900,000 children

through community based nutrition support and 7,500-8,000

particularly vulnerable children through child-targeted social

protection in Amhara and Oromia regions. The project will also

support the roll-out of the urban Health Extension Programme to

improve the health and nutrition status of children living in

socio-economically challenged communities in Addis Ababa.
