Security situation in Darfur


The security situation in Darfur is reported to be relatively calm.
       
A UNAMID vehicle was carjacked by two unknown armed men in El Fasher last night. The driver of the vehicle, an international staff member, was not injured in the incident.

UNAMID military conducted 22 confidence-building patrols, 19 escort patrols and five night patrols covering 35 villages and camps for internally displaced persons (IDPs). Similarly, UNAMID police conducted 92 patrols in and around villages and IDP camps.

UNAMID police start training programme
As part of its capacity-building efforts, UNAMID police in Nyala, South Darfur, yesterday began a five-day training programme on criminal investigations for Sudanese Government police. Twenty-five GoS personnel are taking part in the course, which has been organized as part of UNAMID police’s capacity-building efforts.

UNAMID Commemorates 15th anniversary of Rwandan genocide
Senior UNAMID officials today joined the Mission’s Rwandan community in marking the 15th anniversary of the Rwandan genocide. While the main commemoration was held at UNAMID headquarters in El Fasher, similar events have been held at the Mission’s various locations in Darfur. The theme of this year’s event aims to look forward as well as back by calling on Rwandans to continue to build their nation and by warning against any attempts at revisionism.
