Ethiopia / African Union Summit / Information day on infrastructures in Africa

 

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia, January 23, 2009/African Press Organization (APO)/ — Ahead of the African Union Summit of Heads of States and Government scheduled to take place from 1st to 3rd February 2009 under the theme : « Infrastructure Development in Africa” , the Department of Infrastructure and Energy of the African Union would on 28 January 2009, organise an Information Day dedicated to Infrastructure Development in Africa, at the headquarters of the African Union in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

 

Holding under the patronage of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mr. Jean Ping, the Information Day is aimed at enlightening the mass population as well as the media on the challenges and realisation of infrastructure in the continent. This sentisation Day would bring together economic actors to share view and experiences on the practicalities of infrastructure development in Africa. These include: the African Development Bank (ADB), United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) amongst others.

 
 

The Day will feature a series of roundtable discussions on the opportunities and challenges on the ground, as well as the different infrastructure development programs and samples of some successful development projects. Participants will listen to some presentations by high-level experts on infrastructure in Africa.

Some workshop will be shared by Mrs. Elham Ibrahim, Commissioner for Infrastructure and Energy in the African Union, and Mr. Kandeh Yumkella, Director General on UNIDO.

 
 

First of its kind, the Information Day will also consist of an exhibition on transport and energy.

 
 

A press conference on the state of infrastructure in Africa is scheduled to take place on 28 January at 12hnoon at the media centre of the AU Commission. The press conference will be addressed by Mrs. Elham Ibrahim, Mr. Kandeh Yumkella and Mr. Bamanga Tukur, Chairperson of the Round Table of African Businesses (ABR).

 
 

Journalists are invited to take part in the activities marking the Information Day on Infrastructure in Africa and the press conference.
