UNAMID Deputy Joint Special Representative meet with the Government of Sudan Liaison Officer


UNAMID Deputy Joint Special Representative (DJSR), Mr. Henry Anyidoho, received in his office today, the Government of Sudan Liaison Officer, Major General Mahi Eldie Abed Elbah Mohammed. They discussed issues related to the responsibilities placed on them as Liaison Officers, to cooperate and facilitate UNAMID operations as much as possible.

Tanzanian Reconnaissance Team to visit Darfur

A Tanzanian Army Reconnaissance team is expected to visit UNAMID/Darfur this week to tour the various locations where the Tanzanian soldiers could be deployed. The team will visit Khor Abeche and Muhajeria in Sector South and Sector West. Tanzania has expressed willingness to contribute one battalion consisting of 800 troops by March 2009.


Tanzania is currently contributing individual police officers and military staff officers to UNAMID.

UNAMID Patrol ambushed in Sector West

On 9 November 2008, a UNAMID patrol from El Geneina Super Camp was ambushed by unidentified armed men. During the attack, the patrol engaged in an exchange of fire which resulted in one peacekeeper injured and one vehicle stolen by the perpetrators.

United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) vehicle car-jacked

A vehicle belonging to UNHCR was car-jacked on 9 November, in Zalingei, Sector West, by three armed men in civilian clothing who shoot at the vehicle, wounding the driver on the left hand. The driver was taken to the hospital for treatment. The vehicle was later recovered by Government of Sudan Police on the same day.
