Ethiopia / African Union Commission Chairperson Ping Receives a Special Envoy of President Wade

 

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia, November 7, 2008/African Press Organization (APO)/ — The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Jean Ping, on Wednesday 5 November 2008, at the headquarters of the African Union in Addis Ababa, received in audience, the Minister of Environment of the Republic of Senegal who came with a written message from H.E. Abdoulaye Wade, President of the Republic of Senegal, with respect to the Sahara Green Wall Initiative.

 

During the meeting, the Chairperson of the Commission commended President Wade’s initiative saying that, the Sahara Green Wall Initiative represents a priority and a huge project in Africa. Chairperson Ping further expressed gratitude and asked the Special Envoy to transmit his message of recognition and gratitude to President Wade, for his efforts aimed at ensuring the protection of environment.

 

” I totally share the view of President Wade on this issue and I am happy that he has embarked on this initiative that would mobilise the 11 countries concerned by the project” he said.

 

The Commissioner for Rural Economy and Agriculture of the African Union and the Senegal Ambassador to the African Union also took part in the meeting.
