The Hakamas are a group of female singers who accompanied fighting forces during the wars in Sudan. But under a special project of the Integrated United Nations Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration (IUNDDR) Programme, these women who had spurred on combatants at the battlefront put on the mantle of peace and toured their communities, staging musical concerts in which they campaigned for peace and national reconciliation.

To mark the end of this project and, at the same time, commemorate the 8tt anniversary of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on the role of women in peace and security, the Hakamas will be on stage in the UNMIS Headquarters in Khartoum on Sunday, 09 November 2008, starting at 16.00 hours. A second performance is scheduled for 10 November 2008 at Friendship Hall, Khartoum, starting at 20.00 hours.
