Ethiopia / Official Groundbreaking Ceremony of the Construction of the African Union Conference Centre

 

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia, November 6, 2008/African Press Organization (APO)/ — The official groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the New African Union Conference Centre is scheduled to take place on Monday 10 November 2008, at 9h30 am, at the headquarters of the African Union in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

 

The official launching ceremony will take place in the presence of the Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China H.E Wu Bangguo,
the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Jean Ping, the Deputy Chairperson of the AU Commission, Mr. Erastus Mwencha, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Mr.Seyoum Mesfin, the Mayor of Addis Ababa, Mr. Kuma Demeksa, officials of the AU Commission, the Chinese delegation in Addis Ababa and other invitees.

 

Activities marking the official kick off of the construction work will include a tête-à-tête between H.E Jean Ping and the guest of honor, H.E. Wu Bangguo, followed by the signing of the guests book as well as the presentation of the model of the AU Conference Centre and office complex buildings.

 

Featuring on the agenda of the ceremony to mark the start of the construction of the African Union New Conference Centre, is an introductory remark by the Deputy Chairperson of the AU Commission, Mr. Erastus Mwencha, a welcome address by H.E. Jean Ping and the speech of H.E. Wu Bangguo, Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China.

 

The ceremony will also consist of the official cutting of the symbolic ribbon marking the start of the construction project.

 

Ethiopian traditional cultural dances will crown the occasion.
