UNAMID force conducts confidence-building patrol in Muhajeria area, Sector South

 

Following recent clashes between Ma’alia and Zaghawa tribesmen in Muhajeria, Sector South, on 20 October 2008, a UNAMID team of 84 troops, one language assistant, one military observer and eight police advisers, travelling in five vehicles and accompanied by two armored personnel carriers (APCs), conducted a confidence-building patrol to Kilekile, 56 km south east of Muhajeria town, to assess the security situation.

 

Shooting incident in Sector North

On 24 October 2008, UNAMID reported that a UNAMID escort patrol from Kafod exchange point; about 46 km south east of UNAMID base in Kutum, Sector North, witnessed an exchange of fire between Government of Sudan forces and unknown armed elements. During the passage of the UNAMID patrol, two mortar bombs fell 10 meters between two UNAMID armored personnel carriers (APCs) causing no injuries to UNAMID forces nor damages to the vehicles.
