UNESCO recruits Advisor for Communication and Information for its Cairo Office


CAIRO, Egypt, August 20, 2008/African Press Organization (APO)/ — The post of UNESCO’s Advisor for Communication and Information for Egypt, Sudan and Yemen located in the Organization’s Office in Cairo is presently open for recruitment.

The major responsibilities of the post are to analyze, evaluate and contribute to the development of approaches and strategies for harnessing the potential of communication and information for development in Egypt, Sudan and Yemen, to plan and implement programme activities and develop new project options and proposals to be funded by contributions received for the International Programme for the Development of Communication (IPDC) and the Information for All Programme (IFAP) and to implement approved projects; participate in raising extra budgetary funds, and plan and implement projects funded by these funds.Candidates should also be able to contribute to UNESCO’s involvement in the establishment of UN project management systems including the preparation of Common Country Assessments (CCA), United Nations Development Assistance Frameworks (UNDAF), Country Programme Documents (CPDs) and Country Programme Action Plans (CPAPs);

Candidates to the post must have advanced university degree in communication and/or information or related field combined with significant experience, preferably with orientation towards knowledge societies. A combination of relevant professional qualifications/certification and extensive experience (minimum 7 years) in the field of communication and information may be taken into consideration in lieu of advanced degree.

Candidates must have at least 7 years of extensive professional experience, of which 3 years acquired at international level, in the area of communication and/or information and at least 3 years’ experience in planning and managing international projects in the area of communication and information. They are required to have excellent knowledge of English or Arabic and good knowledge of the other language.
