U-N Security council mission to africa

Security council mission to africa

KINSHASA, Democratic Republic of the Congo, June 7, 2008/African Press Organization (APO)/ — The Security Council delegation traveling in Africa could not meet as planned with President Idriss Deby Itno of Chad because of a scheduling conflict brought about by an unforeseen presidential trip abroad, according to Ambassador Jean Maurice Ripert of France, who headed that segment of the mission.

The delegation is now in Kinshasa, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), where it arrived an hour ago for meetings with the Congolese leadership, including President Joseph Kabila, and with the UN peacekeeping mission (MONUC).

The delegation will also visit a UN-run camp for internally displaced persons in the northeastern town of Goma on 8 June and meet with the humanitarian agencies working in the region.
