Consultative Workshop on the Preparation for the Establishment of Vital

Events Birth, Death, Marriage and Divorce Registration System in

Ethiopia

Who – United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in collaboration with

Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC), Ministry of Women’s

Affairs and other government and non-government organizations

 

What – Ethiopia is one of the countries that do not have a functional

national or regional legislation for the registration and

certification of births, deaths, marriages and divorces that

are critical in safeguarding basic human rights that the

country stipulated in its Constitution and in the conventions

and resolutions that the country has endorsed. Therefore, the

consultative workshop will bring together all initiatives and

efforts performed in the past to support the re-drafting

process of the draft proclamation for the establishment of the

registration of vital events and the organizational structure

for the vital registration and statistics systems.
